The Sheraton Hotel Jerusalem recently became the Leonardo Plaza Hotel. Regardless of the name change, locals still affectionately call this five-star hotel "the Plaza."
The location is fabulous. The Leonardo Plaza is in Rehavia, which is a quiet, upscale neighborhood with lots of greenery. But it is also centrally located. The Old City is within
walking distance, as are the Great Synagogue, the modern downtown area - with its light rail that will take you quickly to places like Yad Vashem or Mt. Herzl, and Mamilla mall, Jerusalem's luxury shopping street, is just a few minutes away. If you are traveling with children, there are several parks nearby with very nice playgrounds where they can romp and exercise and let off steam.
The hotel is on King George Street, which has lots of touristy shopping opportunities, and also leads to Ben Yehuda, the pedestrian shopping mall where you'll also find many restaurants.
In addition to comfortable rooms, many of them with outstanding views, you can also enjoy Middle Eastern
cuisine or spaghetti at your choice of the hotels's two restaurants. The food tends to be very good, especially for breakfast and many people rave about Primavera, the hotel's Italian restaurant.
Staff here are generally very friendly and helpful.
Extras - in case you haven't walked enough during your daily sightseeing, you can keep up with your exercise routine in the fitness club, or get papered at the spa or relax by the swimming pool.
There is a bar, high-speed internet access and a choice of conference rooms.
The hotel caters to tour groups and an Orthodox clientele, due to its high standards of kashrut. (See our
directory of kosher hotels in Jerusalem.
